I’m currently re-reading Dracula. I read it for the first time in college, and I’m finding it a lot scarier the second time around. There’s a sort of dread that comes with knowing what’s going to happen next when the characters don’t, and being unable to do anything about it. Similar to horror movies, but in written form.
I’m also fairly certain it’s a kind of irony, but my five minutes of googling hasn’t come up with the right one yet.
edit: It’s dramatic irony. Somehow missed this while skimming the definition on Wikipedia.
