Modern Day AdaptationsPosted: May 14, 2012
The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (h/t Brain Pickings) is another adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice as a video blog by Lizzie. It’s 10 videos in, and I’m enjoying seeing how they adapt it to format and to the modern day. Going from five sisters to three is working out so far, as Kitty and Mary aren’t huge parts of the story anyway. Jane and Lizzie as struggling twenty-somethings with mountains of student loans and living at home is a good analog to the situation from the novel. I do wonder at how they’ll handle Darcy’s letter, but that wondering is most of the fun for me anyway.
I’m also glad to have the BBC series Sherlock back for a bit. Finally watched the first episode today, and I’ll catch the second tomorrow. I’m not as familiar with the Sherlock Holmes stories as I am with Pride and Prejudice, so I’m more just enjoying the ride with this one. I should go back and read those stories so I can watch the series again and pick out what’s different.
